KG's Kids Initiatives

Empowering young minds with the gift of knowledge is at the core of our mission. Every child deserves the chance to explore the world through literature, and we strive to make that dream a reality. Education is the cornerstone on which bright futures are built, and together, we can inspire a generation of learners.

Join us on this journey of transformation. Your support could be the key to unlocking a world of opportunity for those in need.

KG’s Karnival of Books

KG’s Karnival of Books is the flagship event of our Literacy Support System. It reimagines the traditional book fair with a focus on excitement and engagement. At our Karnival of Books, every student can select two free books to take home, supporting their summer reading journey. We prioritize inclusion with a diverse selection of racially diverse books, ensuring that our event fosters a love for reading and literacy.

  • Classroom Library Adoptions

Fact: Kids in classrooms without classroom libraries read 50% less than kids in classrooms with libraries. A start-up classroom library is an initiative that KG’s Kids believes is imperative to student success. The one-time donation will help us to gift a library of 20 books that will help provide initial classroom resources for first year teachers.

  • Books Before Break

Sponsor a classroom and help prevent the loss of academic skills and knowledge that can occur when children are not in school by donating to our Gift of Books Initiative! KG's Kids supports over 6500 students in underserved communities in multiple school districts in the greater Indianapolis area. Each student receives a book ahead of their two week fall, winter, and spring breaks. This one-time donation will help provide an average elementary school class of 25 one book each to continue their academic growth while enjoying some much needed time to relax and recharge.

  • Financial Literacy Workshops

Financial Literacy Workshops: A Partnership with Charles Schwab

The Reality Store provides an interactive experience in which youth learn how the choices they make regarding career, managing income and expenses, and saving and investing will affect future outcomes. To start, students draw a salary based on a specific career and manage basic living expenses for themselves and a family. They envision the lifestyle they would like to have in their late 20s, explore a career, receive a checking account "deposit" equal to one month's salary, and spend their salary in the Reality Store on necessities and extras. They also handle some of life's unexpected events and discover whether their occupation provides the financial resources needed in order to sustain the lifestyle they want.

  • STEM Activities Paried with Read Alouds

During the KG's Kids STEM Day activities, each grade level will listen to the book chosen that corresponds to the STEM day activity for that grade level. The students will then pair up to complete the STEM activity based off the book. Each pair of students will have a STEM kit containing all of the necessary items to complete the activity.
